Wayne T. Carolan, 82, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on January 11, 2021 under the care of Evans Memorial Home and Hospice of Howard County.

Wayne was born March 30, 1938 in Bonair, Iowa, the son of Tom and Stella Carolan. He was raised on the family farm in rural Lime Springs and graduated from Cresco High School in 1956. Following High School he attended Iowa State University.

Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1959-1962. While stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Wayne was a part of one of the first U.S. military units to develop an American military outpost in Thailand and was part of the initial exploratory U.S. Forces into Vietnam.

Wayne married the love of his life, Alice (Bauer) on July 2, 1964. He was active in many community activities including the Lions Club.

In 1965 Wayne became the first local employee of Donaldson Company and spent many years as plant superintendent until his retirement. As a Master Craftsman, Wayne was in his true element in his extensive workshop, refurbishing and making furniture from scratch and repairing almost anything.

Wayne is preceded in death by his wife Alice in 2017, his parents, his twin sister Wanda and his eldest sister Betty.

Wayne is survived by his brother Neil (Linda) of Tucson, AZ, nephew Tom (Sue) of Pitcher, New York, great nephews Logan, Dakota and Noah, his niece Captain Michele (Scott) Day, USN of Singapore, great nieces, Abigail, Emilia and Nora, and many cousins.

Special thanks to Mark Rix who was a great friend to Wayne for many years.

Due to COVID -19, the funeral will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wayne’s memory to Howard County Community Hospice or Evans Memorial Home.
