Owen.
Robert Owen was born in Montello, Wis., June 12th, 1853, and died at the hospital in Rochester, Minn., Sunday afternoon, Feb. 28th, 1915, at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 16 days.
When he was 13 years of age the family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in Albion twp., Howard county.
On June 3rd, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Berning of Bristol, Minn., and began housekeeping on a farm near Bonair where they made their home until about a year ago when they moved to the village of Bonair.
For the past three months his health has been greatly impaired. In spite of all that loving hands and medical skill could do, his condition of health grew no better, and as a last resort he went to the hospital for examination. It was apparent that a cancer in the stomach had been formed, and that the only alternative would be to undergo a surgical operation. To this he patiently submitted but it proved to be too much of a strain to his weakened physical body.
On the date above mentioned he passed peacefully away, leaving to mourn his loss, his now bereft companion, five sons, viz., Roy, living on a farm near Cresco, Elmer, Frank, Donald and John, living at home; three brothers, Griffith, living at Cresco, John at Minneapolis, and Matthew at Lime Springs; three sisters, Elizabeth Conklin of South Bend, Wash., Mary Hughes of Lime Springs, and Kate Thomas of Bonair, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Bonair on Wednesday forenoon, March 3rd. A selected quartet composed of Messrs. Paul Auringer and B. E. Thorne and Mesdames F. A. Paul and Glen Johnson sang tenderly and feelingly “Asleep in Jesus,” Come Ye Disconsolate,” "Rest, Sweet Rest,” and "Going Down the Valley,” the last named being a special favorite of the deceased. The pastor, Rev. M. L. Hill offered a few words of consolation and comfort to the bereaved from the text {illegible} 5:1. The body was laid to rest in Lime Springs cemetery to await the resurrection morn.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Pleasant Hill Cemetery shows the name spelled Owen.
