Kathryn “Kay” Reinhart, age 81, of Cresco and Ridgeway, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Chautauqua Guest Homes, in Charles City, Iowa.
Kathryn Ann Henry was born on March 2, 1939, to Herbert and Isabel (McCormick) Henry in Cresco, Iowa. She attended Winneshiek County rural school and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1957. Kay later graduated from the Rochester Junior College in 1960 receiving a diploma for the General Secretarial Finishing Course. Kay first met David at Matter’s Ballroom in Decorah then bumped into him at Inwood Ballroom in Spillville on the very same night. They dated for a few years. On January 8, 1977, Kay married David Reinhart at St Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton.
For many years, Kay helped Dave on the farm. While in college, Kay worked in the office at IBM and Mayo Clinic. She also worked at Hoines Drug Store, and most recently at Leo’s Gift and Jewelry. In her spare time, Kay enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb for outdoor flowerbeds. She liked reading the newspaper, sewing, and canning her vegetables, fruits, and meats. Kay was a lifetime member at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton. Kay especially loved going for car rides and looked forward to the weekly rides with Dave. Her father used to joke that Kay was “born with a steering wheel in her hand”.
She is survived by her husband, Dave of Ridgeway, IA, siblings Joe Henry of Ridgeway, IA, Marjory Sovey of Oro Valley, AZ, sister-in-law Mary (Robert) Schatz of Lime Spring, IA, and brother-in-law Robert (Joan) Reinhart of Pocahontas, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Jane Henry, and sister-in-law Paulette Henry.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A private family burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery with Father Jacob Rouse officiating.
