Jane E. McLean was born in Canada Aug. 31, 1847, and when 9 years old came to a homestead near Preston, Minn., with her parents. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to Richard Smith Jan. 28, 1871, and removed to Winnebago City, Minn., where she spent most of her married life. She was left a widow June 28, 1881. She united with the Baptist church at Winnebago, at which place she always held her membership. She departed this life Sept. 22, 1913, and leaves to mourn her loss two children, Frank J. Smith of Willard, Mont., and Mrs. Joseph Owen of Cresco, and one brother, Kenneth McLean, of Big Fork, Minn., and four sister{s}, Mrs. Oscar Wilson, of Bermiji, Minn., Mrs. Thomas McLain, of Willard, Mont., Mrs. John Costello, of Cresco, Iowa, and Mrs. John Fox, of Aberdeen, S.D.
The funeral was held Wednesday forenoon at the home of Joe Owens, where the deceased had made her home for several years, Rev. Clifford P. Shaffer officiating. Interment in Oak Lawn cemetery.
