Death Calls Suddenly
With no preliminary warning, P. H. Ricks was suddenly called by death. He had just left his home north of the furniture factory, after having loaded his tool chest, work bench and a ladder on the wagon of L. M. Cole, for whom he was about to do some carpenter work, when about in front of the Swenson grubber factory, Mr. Cole heard a rattle from the ladder on which Mr. Ricks had been sitting, and looking around noticed that he had fallen from the ladder to the ground. Cole at once carried Ricks to the side of the road and feeling his pulse noticed a slight pulsation. A doctor was summoned and Mr. Ricks was placed in a passing wagon to be taken to the hospital, but Dr. Plummer, who had responded to the call, arrived and pronounced him dead from an attack of heart failure. The deceased had more or less trouble with his heart for the past three years. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the home.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone photo in Oak Lawn Cemetery shows he was born in 1850.
