OBITUARY.
PLOPPER
Erwin Wheeler Plopper, son of Stephen and Phoebe Ann Plopper, was born at Monroe, Mich., Sept. 2, 1850. When he was two years of age the family moved to Lawrence, Mich., where he remained until he had grown to manhood. His mother died when he was but seven years of age. In 1877, when 27 years of age he came to Cresco, Iowa, and three years later, March 22. 1880, he was married to Miss Margaret Young, at Owatonna, Minn., who now survives him. Soon after they moved to Janesville, Minn., where they remained until they moved to Lawrence, Mich. After residing here four years, they returned to Cresco, where they have lived continuously with the exception of four years spent in Waverly, Iowa.
Two weeks ago last Sunday it became necessary for him to remain in bed. From that time he gradually grew weaker until Monday Jan. 20th at 7:30 a. m., his spirit went triumphantly to meet Jesus.
He united with the Christian church when he was quite young and remained a member until he came to Cresco, when he united with the Baptist church, and has been one of its most faithful members. During the last seven years of his life he had not missed one Sunday service. An infant son and two infant daughters have preceded him to the other world.
He leaves to mourn his absence, his beloved wife, two sons. Steven and George, and two daughters, Mrs. Alice Daubersmith, and Miss Estella; five brothers, Madison, of New Richmond, Ohio.; Riley, of Chicago, Ill.; Milton, of Mesa, Arizona; Edwin and George, of Lawrence, Mich., and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Loveland, of Paw Paw, Mich., and Mrs. Hattie Smith, of Loveland, Colorado. The wife, sons and daughters and his brother Madison were with him at the last.
His life was that of a most perfectly consistent Christian and the bereaved ones are comforted by the assurance that he is now perfectly at rest and entirely happy. His constantly expressed desire at the last to go home and find Jesus, and the beautiful smile that came to him and remains at the last is that of one whose trials are at an end.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Schaffer, and the church was filled with sorrowing friends and neighbors, including members of the Woodmen orders of which the deceased was a member. Interment in Oak Lawn.
