HILL.
Joseph Hill was born in Wurtenerg, Germany, on July 27, 1835, and died August 30, 1911, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Lena Hayes, Hopkins, Minn. Age 76 years, 1 month and 3 days.
When about 20 years of age he left Germany and landed in Pittsburg, Pa., where he spent several years. He afterwards came to Allamakee Co., Ia. Here he was married April 16, 1868, to Miss Katharina Entz. This union was blessed with nine children, five girls and four boys. Lena Hayes of Hopkins, Minn., George and Carrie Hill, Mary Streinz and Emma Booth of Cresco, Henry of Minneapolis, Edward of Decorah, and Charley of Hopkins Minn., and Lydia who died nine years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill came to Howard county, Iowa, 36 years ago where they resided one year, after which they moved to Winneshiek county. His wife preceded him in death 20 years ago.
After the death of his companion, he broke up housekeeping and lived with his children at various places. He spent about 8 or 9 years with his daughter Mrs. Hayes. This includes his last year also.
On about Easter last he was taken with a severe case of pneumonia. This lasted about three weeks. This so weakened his physical condition that he never again regained his strength.
The immediate cause of his death was a stroke of paralysis and Bright's disease.
Mr. Hill was identified with tho German Methodist church for many years. This relation he sustained till death.
He leaves to mourn his death eight children, eleven grandchildren and one great grand child, besides a large circle of other relatives and friends.
The funeral took place at the home of his daughter Mrs. Streinz in Cresco. The body was interred near the German Methodist church near Ridgeway, Iowa. The services were in charge of the Rev. J. C. Schwab.
