O. D. Lovejoy passed away at an early hour, last Sunday evening after an illness of several months. The funeral takes place this afternoon at
the residence.

LOVEJOY.
Owen Douglas Lovejoy was born at Scotch Grove, Jones county, Iowa, December 7, 1847. He was the eldest son of a family of six, born to John E. and Margaret Lovejoy, Daniel L. of Inavale, Neb., alone surviving. The death of his sister Kate occurring but twelve hours later than his own.
He came from a family strongly identified with the history of abolition, his uncle, Elijah P., dying a martyr to the caus{e} and Owen strongly advocated it strongly in the halls of congrats.
With the exception of a short time spent with his father while minister to Peru during the civil war, his early manhood was passed in the neighborhood of his birth.
He served in the latter part of the civil war, in Company C, 44th Iowa Infantry, enlisting with almost the entire student body of Lennox College.
December 30, 1869 he was united in marriage to Emogene Salisbury at Hopkinton. Iowa. Their early married life was spent at Scotch Grove. In May 1873 they removed to Vernon Springs where they have since resided. To this union six children were born, two of them dying in infancy and the youngest daughter dying at the age of fifteen.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. May Belle Wilson, Henry F. and Carl E., and seven grandchildren.
His last illness, although long and exhausting, was cheered by the presence of his family and kindness of his friends.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. John Gammons, were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, and burial was in Oak Lawn.
