ALDEN, ILL. - Kathleen Marie Bronner, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Alden, Ill. on Feb. 26, 2020.
Her remains will be interred at Cedar Hill Cemetery in rural Cresco, Iowa, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Kathy was born on April 25, 1949, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Larsen) Bronner of rural Howard County, Iowa. The oldest of four children, she grew up on a farm northwest of Cresco. She loved riding horses; friends recall a beloved part-Arabian sorrel with three white socks and a white blaze on the face named “Julie.”
Kathy was confirmed at Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church near her home and attended local schools, graduating from Crestwood High School in Cresco in 1967. The envy of more than a few young people in the neighborhood, she drove a black Monte Carlo with a red stripe.
After graduation, Kathy moved to Illinois, where she bought her first home in Wonder Lake. She was employed at Woodstock Die Casting, American Can and Silgen Corporation. After retirement, she kept busy with part-time work at Alden Resale in the winter months and at Cody’s Farm Stand in the summer and autumn. Customers looked forward to her friendly conversation. Her employer described her as reliable and trustworthy, with a cash register correct right to the penny!
Kathy was an avid photographer, capturing social functions and everyday life with her 35mm camera. She was a hard worker with a gentle nature. Known for her good humor, integrity and straight-talking common sense, she will be missed by family and close friends.
Survivors include two sisters, Pamela Bronner of Calmar, Iowa and Cynthia Bronner of Solon, Iowa; a brother, Mark Bronner of Cresco; a foster brother, Dan Schwasinger of West Allis, Wis.; a nephew; and a great-niece.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.
