OBITUARY.
John H. Smith was born in Erie Co, Penn., February 28, 1833, and died at his home in Cresco, Iowa, Nov. 27, 1912, at 2:30 p. m.
When 17 years of age he moved with his parents to Ill., where he entered a shoe shop as an apprentice, following that trade until 1862; when he moved to Howard county, Iowa, residing on the old homestead until about three years ago.
He was united in marriage to Mary McCormick, Jan. 11, 1860, in Rockford, Ill. Five children were born to this union, all of whom, with the widow, survive him, with the exception of one daughter, Clara, who died Sept. 21, 1896. The children surviving him are Mary E., of Lodgepole, S. D., William and Everett of Cresco, and Edwin of Becker, Minn.; also five grandchildren.
The funeral takes place this morning at the Church of the Assumption.
