OBITUARY.
NELSON
Samuel L. Nelson was born the 11th day of October, 1841, and died at noon, Monday March 4th, 1912. He was born in Kenosha, Racine Co., Wis. He moved to Iowa in the year 1852. He lived on a farm near Granger, until 12 years ago when he came to this city to live. He was married in 1863 to Miss Pfremmer. Six children were born to them. Three are living today as follows; William, Walter and Hattie Henry. Mr. Nelson was a soldier in the civil war. He was a member of Co. A. 13th Iowa. He served during the last year of the war, being mustered out at its close. He was also a soldier of the Cross of Jesus Christ, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and attended its services as long as his health enabled him. One year ago on the 8th of last November he was stricken with a paralytic stroke. He never fully recovered, and while at times he seemed to be somewhat stronger, he failed rapidly towards the last.
One by one the old comrades are answering the final roll call. One by one they are mustered out. Taps are sounded for Bro. Nelson, lights are out. He has fought the good fight of faith, and he will doubtless claim the prize.
The sympathy of his friends and comrades is with the widow and children in their bereavement.Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer Mar. 15, 1912, P-LP, C-3
