Robert “Bob” Bader, age 93, of Protivin, Iowa passed away at home of natural causes on Wednesday, December 25, 2019.
Robert Louis Bader was born on July 13, 1926, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Louis and Adella Bader and lived on the family farm by Protivin. On September 7, 1948, he married Mary Ann Svoboda at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union, 11 children were born.
Bob (Bullet Bob) worked at John Deere and then at Oliver/White Farm in Charles City for over 25 years. After Oliver/White Farm, Bob worked in his garage on everything, from his Model T to tractors to lawn mowers to anything that was brought to him. If it had a motor, he could fix it. He also worked at Fencl Oil and Clet Koshatka Farm Equipment. Bob was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Protivin Volunteer Fire Department. Bob loved his Volkswagen Bugs, Nascar, liked to listen and dance to polka music and liked a good game of cards. The grandkids could always count on Grandpa to make malts when they visited. Bob was also known for ringing the bell in the back of church for many years.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary of 71 years and children: Jean Triplett of Littleton, CO; Allan of Alexandria, VA; Bonnie of Mankato, MN; Lois Smith of Commerce City, CO; Peggy Kuennen (Larry) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Arlis Bader of Littleton, CO; Shirley Horak (Reggie) of Waterloo, IA; Larry Bader (Ros) of Platteville, CO; Patty Hageman (Roy) of Decorah, IA; Lisa Brown (Don) of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: JoAnna Korte (Derek), Renee Triplett, Amanda DeBord (Mack), Connie and Robyn Smith, Brad (Amelia), Brent, Kyle (Sara), Eric Kuennen, Wayne (Paige), Kim, Ryan and Jeff Horak, Lane and Megan Brown, Dakota, Brandi and Ben Hageman, Jerry and Jill Bader; great grandchildren: Bane and Cyric Korte, Emily, Maddie and Ben DeBord, Morgan and Ettie Smith, Amie, Emily and Lucy Kuennen; brothers-in-law Norman Scheidel and David Shores.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Adella Bader, a son, Jerry Bader; sisters, Laverne Simmen (Ralph), Betty Scheidel and Donna Shores; sons-in-law Mike Triplett and Greg Smith, daughter-in-law Bev Bader.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Protivin Fire Department or Howard County First Responders.
Everyone who knew him knew he was a one of a kind. He will be missed.
Funeral Mass for Bob Bader will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
