OBITUARY.
George Drtina died at his home near Cresco, Iowa, Thursday, July 28, 1910, aged 16 years 11 months and 27 days. He was ailing for about a month. The best physicians in our town were called in but his disease seemed to baffle the knowledge of them all. All that the loving ones could do was to fold their arms and look on. Georgie was the flower of young manhood—full of life and ambition. Everybody that knew him had learned to love him well. None knew him but to love him; none named him but to praise him. Heart-broken father and mother were with him during his illness; not once did he utter a complaint but told them he was ready to go. There was a deep feeling of grief in the hearts of all present as they chanted the prayers for the dying and beautiful soul of Georgie Drtina as the soul took its flight. The beautiful white casket was surrounded by wreaths of flowers, and we who looked upon the calm face of our friend could not doubt that the heavenly father had taken him home. After a Requiem High Mass in St. Mary’s church in Cresco, he was laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The respect in which the family is held was manifested by a large procession which followed his remains to their last resting place—there being forty teams. The many friends of George Drtina and family will extend sympathy which is indeed heartfelt, and the pangs of grief will be felt in many hearts outside of that home which less than a month ago was full of mirth and laughter. He is survived by his father, mother, two sisters and three brothers, many relatives and host of friends.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Calvary Cresco Cemetery shows his date of birth as August 26, 1894 which doesn’t agree with the above age.
