On last Monday evening the Angel of Death entered again into our midst and chose one of our best beloved neighbors, Mrs. James Clear. Eliz¬abeth McGrane was born near Cecelia in 1875 and resided on the farm with her parents until 1891 when she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to James Clear who lived on a farm near Alta Vista and here she resided up to the time of her death. Mrs. Clear has been ill for some time and having contracted a severe cold she gradually became weaker until on Monday morning she was overtaken by the Grim Reaper of Death and gave up her life to Him who does all things for the best. Mrs. Clear was a model wife, a loving mother, and a kind friend and all who had the pleasure of an intimate acquaintance with her give her the praise she so justly deserved. Her life was one long act of resigna¬tion to the Divine Will of her Eternal Father. Up to the last moments, she was resigned to her coming death. She leaves a sorrowing husband and six children to mourn her loss. The children are Elmer aged 1{?}, Francis 14, William 11, Lucile 9, Alfonsius 6, and Katherine aged 3; and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Dormedy, of Dakota, Mrs. Jas. Custock of Oelwein, Mrs. Brinkman of Oelwein, and Mrs. Geo. Keefe of Elma, besides two brothers, John McGrane of Deefield, and Will Mc¬Grane of Cecelia. The funeral took place at the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma on Wednesday morn¬ing, Dec. 8th, and interment was made in the local cemetery. Father Gunn : preached a very eloquent sermon and I gave a touching tribute to the de¬ceased. Those acting as pall bearers were Wm. Cashman, Vincent Custock,
, Elmer Custock, Henry Brinkman and William McGrane.
Transcriber’s Note: There is an Elizabeth Clear listed in Calvary Elma Cemetery who was the wife of James Clear; however, her dates of birth and death vary from the above. The gravestone shows 1867 – 1910.
