W. J. Daughenbaugh Dead.
The Jennings, La., Times-Record of recent date contains the following obituary of W. J. Daughenbaugh, a former resident of Cresco, who went from here to Louisiana about 25 years ago.
Another one of the pioneers of Jennings passed away. The funeral of Mr. Wm. J. Daughenbaugh, who died last Friday afternoon was preached by Rev. J. R. Basket in the Methodist church Sunday. A portion of the ceremony was conducted by the Masonic order of which Mr. Daughenbaugh was a member. Burial took place in the Jennings cemetery where the funeral obseques was completed.
William J. Daughenbaugh was born in Pennsylvania Dec. 31, 1830, and passed out of this life at his home near Jennings, La., Nov. 19, 1909, at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, aged 78 years, 10 months and 18 days. He was the oldest of ten children most of whom survive him. His father emigrated with his family to Freeport, Ill., in 1846, where our brother reached the years of maturity. He was most happily married twice during his lifetime. The first time January 1850, to Miss Elizabeth Ott. To this union were born four children, two boys and two girls, viz: John S. of Cresco, Daniel W. of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Snow of St. Louis, Mrs. D. Hanks of Missouri Valley, Iowa. But he was bereaved of his wife July 1862. His second marriage was consumated at the close of the war with Mrs. Martha Atkins of Mobile, Ala. As a result of this marriage seven children were born viz: Henrv E. of Iota, Charles E. and Earl O. of Jennings, La., Mrs. Carrie E. Baily of Ville Platte, La., Mrs. Ella Wilder, Gulfport, Miss, and Mrs. Ollie O. Pennington, Big Lake, Minn., and a son James who died at the age of nine.
He enlisted in Co. K, 46th Ill., Vol. Inft., and honorably discharged 1865. He pioneered some moving from Freeport to the frontier in Iowa and back to Freeport and again to Cresco, Iowa, coming to Jennings in 1884 where he lived until his death.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings, Lousiana,also that his first wife's maiden name was Otto.
