News reached here Tuesday evening of the tragic death of Henry Wood Potter, which occurred in the stock yards at Chicago about 12 o'clock Tuesday. Mr. Potter, with several other stockmen, was in the caboose of a stock train when the out bound Pan Handle passenger train crashed into them. The passenger train had rounded a curve at 12 and Rockerell streets when the engineer sighted the freight a few yards ahead. Mr. Potter was a resident of Howard county for about 30 years, having lived on his farm north of town. About 6 years ago he moved west and since resided with his family there. The remains were brought to Elma Thursday and the funeral was held from the Brandmill residence on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment was made at the Howard cemetery.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born November 17, 1855 and died September 28, 1909.
