Charlotte L. Preston was born in Steuben county, New York, July 11th, 1840. She was the youngest of seven children and moved with her parents to Illinois in 1845 and from there to Foreston, Howard county, Iowa. She was married to James Irvine Oct. 9th, 1866, living on a farm two miles east of Lime Springs until his death four years ago, when she moved to Cresco, remaining three years, returning to Lime Springs less than a year ago. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church joining when about twenty-one years of age and continuing a faithful and earnest worker until her Saviour called her home on Friday, June 25th, 1909. She leaves two sisters, one brother, two daughters, two sons, besides other relatives and many friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon June 27th, when Rev. Peck the pastor of the Presbyterian Church spoke to a large audience from the words found in Philippians, 1:21., “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
