Sharon Elizabeth (Silker) Sloan, 78, of Saratoga, Iowa died Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA after a battle with bladder cancer.
Sharon was born on April 17, 1941 in San Diego, Calif. She was the daughter of M. Wayne Silker and Virginia (Weatherly) Silker of rural Spring Valley, Mn. Her father was a 20 year career Navy Service man. After the war, Sharon and her family moved many times to where her father was stationed. From coast to coast several times here in the states. Then to Guam for two years. A well-traveled lady.
After her father retired and settled in rural Spring Valley, she graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1959. Sharon went on the St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing, graduating as an LPN in the class of 1961.
On Dec. 31, 1960 she was married to Arlen Neil Sloan of McIntire, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After living in Minneapolis for two years where Arlen attended Dunwoody Institute for electronics training, they settled in Anamosa, Iowa and started their family. From this union there were three children; Rebecca Elizabeth (Sloan) Frazer, Steven Eric Sloan, and Clayton Arlen Sloan.
Sharon’s passion was books and she spent many hours at the LeRoy Public Library. Where she made many, many friends. She went on several mission trips to Children’s Vision with Arlen to Bogota, Colombia. She so enjoyed the children in the orphanage. Sharon worked serveral years at LPC in LeRoy, MN. She really enjoyed getting together with Christian friends from many of our local churches. Her love for the Lord Jesus Christ made her totally non-denominational. She enjoyed movies, tea time, and numerous lunches and trips with her girlfriends.
Sharon is survived by her husband Arlen, her children Rebecca (John) Frazer of Saratoga, IA, Steven (Pattie) Sloan of Baxter, MN, and Clayton (Dawn) Sloan of Rochester, MN. Her grandchildren Nathan Frazer, Nichole Free, Riley Sloan, Anthony Sloan, Ryan Sloan, Joshua Sloan, and five great-grandchildren, with expectations of two more coming soon, and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Paula Ann (Silker) Larson and one great-granddaughter Gabby Ray Free.
A memorial service will be held at the LeRoy Community Center in LeRoy, MN on August 24th, 2019 from 1-4 p.m.
Any money received in memory of Sharon will be donated to Children’s Vision in Bogota, Colombia.
