NEW OREGON PLAIN DEALER November 27, 1863 P2 C3
a portion reprinted in Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer Apr. 7, 1903, LP, C7

DIED--In Vernon Springs, Howard County, Iowa, of croup, November 14, 1863, Sarah, only daughter of Jackson and Rebecca Loney, aged 11 months and 25 days.

O, lovely child! too fair that brew
To lay beneath the grassy mound--
So soon to wither pretty flower,
The fairest one death ever found.

She was her parents only Joy;
For her their prayers did daily rise;
And now when kneeling by their couch,
She'll smile on them from out the skies.

I'll love her too, that angel one,
And weep to think that Heaven-lit eye
So soon should lore its lustrous glow;
So soon should in the coffin lie.
