Richard “Dick” Buck, 86, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco with his family by his side.
Richard “Dick” Orville Buck was born August 4, 1932 in Cresco, the son of Hugh and Mildred (Joerger) Buck. On September 6, 1952 he married Delores Swender at the Saint Nicholas Parish in Evansdale, Iowa.
He started his military career at Camp Pendleton in 1950 and was stationed in many different locations including; Okinawa, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Washington, Vietnam and Kansas City, MO. He retired in 1970 after 20 years of service.
After retiring, Dick and Delores settled in Cresco where they raised their family. He worked at Donaldsons for 20 years, where he formed many lasting friendships. While he worked there he earned many nicknames such as “Sarge”, “Blue” and “Buck”.
He enjoyed softball, golfing, bowling, card club, camping, going out to eat, watching sports, spending time with his grandkids, reading war stories and taking gambling trips.
Dick is survived by two daughters, Becky Creger of Cresco and Deb (Brad) Curtis of Kasson, Minnesota, seven grandchildren: Kerrie (Dan) Clark, Crystal (Brad) Stevenson, Kelsey Buck, Megan (Brady) Norman, Mallory (Miguel) Barragan, Molly Creger, Mitchell (Haley) Curtis, eight great-grandchildren, siblings: Harry (Joan) Buck, Norma Buck, Paul (Pat) Buck, Thomas Buck, Kay Erickson, Carol Metcalf and brothers in law; Ned Krambeer and Roger Horsfall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Delores, two daughters, infant Kathy and Dee Anna Collier, son, Rick Buck and two sisters, Peg Krambeer and Mary Horsfall.
