NEW OREGON PLAIN DEALER January 30, 1863 P2 C3

DIED--In New Oregon, January 24th, 1863, Alice Arabella, only daughter of Samuel and Jane E. Herrick, aged 1 year and 16 days.

Fold her little robe about her,
Softest folds of snow white;
Yearning hearts must live without her,
She is in the land of light.
Clasp the tiny waxen fingers
On the peaceful, slumbering breast;
Close the baby eyelids gently,--
Little Alli's gone to rest.

On her dawny coffin pillow
Lay the precious sleeper softly,
In the strange, and lowly bed
Never more shall pain's keen arrow
Pierce that sweet and tender form,
She is safe from every evil,
Safe from every earthly storm.

To that far off blessed country,
Where your young white dove has gone.
Think not, that she went through darkness,
Wandering fearful and alone.
Jesus loves these little children;
He has borne her o'er the flood,
And has laid your treasure safely,
In the bosom of her God.
