DIED-UPTON--In this place, Friday, Oct. 15, 1875, after a brief illness, Sarah A., wife of J. G. Upton, Esq., aged 49 years.

Thus has passed away to a "better country," another of our early settlers. The long residence of the deceased in this county, her many virtues, and the acquaintance of the family throughout this whole region, make her death come to the hearts of all as a public bereavement.

Sarah S. Miles was born September 7, 1826, in Newport, Maine, where October 4, 1850, she was married to our esteemed townsman J. G. Upton, Esq. In her early years she made a profession of Christian faith and united with the Congregational church of her native place, and her whole life has been that of an exemplary Christian woman.

Judge Upton and wife moved into this county, May 16, 1854, since which time their lives have formed no small part of its history, better known to our readers than to us. Their quarter century of married life has been blessed with a happy and worthy family, and, with all the trials and hardships of pioneer life, their ways have been the ways of pleasantness and peace.

The funeral services were held on Sunday last at the residence of Judge Upton. The exercises were conducted by Rev. G. W. Fall, who preached an affecting and appropriate discourse. The remains of the deceased were followed to the grave by a very large concourse of relatives, friends, and neighbors.

The sympathy of the public, in an unusual degree, is extended to the bereaved husband and children.
