Julia Timmerman, age 94 of Lime Springs, IA passed away, Monday, March 11, 2019 at Accura Care Center in Cresco.
Julia Elizabeth Reis was born at Chester, Iowa on November 4, 1924. She was the eldest of three children of Edna Theresa Maria (March) Reis and Daniel Lewis Reis. She was baptized by Pastor John Pless of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Cresco, Iowa at her grandmother Reis’s Cresco home on January 28, 1925. She had two brothers: Robert, born in 1926 and Dale born in 1932. Julia grew up in the Chester, Lime Springs and Bonair areas. She was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs on March 17, 1940. Julia married Herbert Henry Timmerman on April 7, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs. They began their married life living on a farm on the state line road near Granger, Iowa. While living there two children were born. They moved to a farm northeast of Lime Springs early in their marriage. She lived there until after the death of her husband Herbert on May 7, 1987. Five years later she moved into Lime Springs where she resided until her death.
Julia was a homemaker and also did housework for other families at various times. During her life she worked as a waitress for 5 years in Cresco and Lime Springs. She learned to drive in the late 1960’s and obtained a GED diploma before taking courses to be a nurse’s aide. She then worked at the Cresco Care Center for 30 years before retiring at 83 years of age on December 12, 2007.
Julia taught Sunday School for 35 years and was the Sunday School secretary for 17 years. She was also a member of the ALCW for many years.
Julia is survived by two sons: Eugene (Pamela) Timmerman of Rochester, MN and Steven (Rosanna) Timmerman of New Hampton, IA; four grandchildren: Terry (Kayla) Timmerman of Stewartville, MN, Traci (Henry) McKenry of Pittsburgh, PA, Stephanie (Matthew) Schonewald of Belmond, MA and Renee Timmerman of New Hampton, IA; seven great-grandchildren: Prestyn, Hallie and Lacie Timmerman, Finnegan and Cassidy McHenry, Addison and Alexander Schonewald; one brother, Dale Reis of Lime Springs; two sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Bruns of Bloomer, WI and Shirley Timmerman of Harmony. She was preceded in death by her parents, two granddaughters: Elaine and Kristine in 1975, and her brother Robert in 2003.
