OBITUARY
Mrs. Lucy Peckham, daughter of S. M. and Lucy Hunt, was born at Granger, Minn., Oct. 20, 1868.
When she was ten years old, her father moved to Redfield, So. Dakota, and here she grew to young womanhoad.{sic} In 1888 she returned to Granger and made her home with her sister, Mrs. Polly Williams. On Dec. 16, 1890, she was married to G. D. Peckham and spent the next eight years of her life on the Peckham farm, five miles north of Cresco.
In 1898 her husband’s health failed and she came to live in Cresco. Her life among us has been a rare example of quiet heroism. Deep trouble and crushing burdens fell to her lot, yet there was no complaining. “She was a good girl” and lived out her life as bravely as she knew how.
When quite a young girl, she united with the Methodist church, at Frankfort, S. Dakota, and afterward by letter with the Methodist church in Cresco. Throughout her life her religion was her strength and comfort and manifested itself in consistent living and consecrated effort.
She was a faithful attendant upon all services of her church and a most efficient worker in the league and Sunday school. Two years ago her health never robust, began to fail and her aunt, Mrs. Francis Warren, fearing consumption took her to Arkansas to spend the winter months. The tenderest love and care could not avail and after months of patient suffering she died at the home of her aunt in Gettysberg, South Dakota, Aug. 1st.
And God shall wipe away all tears, And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things have passed away.”

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows her date of birth as Oct. 29, 1868.
