LENT.
Mr. A. D. Lent, passed away last Tuesday evening at the home of his son Charles Lent aged 82 years, 4 months and 5 days. Catarrh of the stomach was the cause of death.
Mr. Lent had been in poor health for several months, but was not confined to his bed until last Friday. His extreme age and stomach trouble gradually wore him out, until he quietly passed away.
Alpheus David Lent was born Dec. 5, 1823, at Rheinbeck, Duchess county, N. Y. When about 16 years of age he was apprenticed to the carpenter trade which trade he followed all his life. After working some time in New York city he returned to Duchess county.
On April 22, 1852, he was married at Hyde Park, New York, to Helen Maria Parker. In the spring of 1866 he removed with his family to Howard county and the same year located in Cresco where he has been a continuous resident.
Mr. Lent was a member of the Congregational church and for many years was superintendent of the Sunday school. He erected a large number of buildings in Cresco, many of which have been destroyed, among them the Phoenix elevator which was recently burned, and the old court house.
He is survived by five children, his wife, Helen M. Lent, having died in January, 1892. The children are Frank D. Lent, Jersey City, N. J., Minnie A. Angel, New Hamburg, N. Y., Mary Norville, New York city, and Charles P. and Willmar B. of Cresco.
The funeral takes place today at 2 o’clock from the residence of W. B. Lent, Rev. J. A. Eakin officiating. Interment at Oaklawn.
