Catherine Barbara Holtz was born in Frederick, Maryland, May 5, 1829, and died in Cresco, Iowa, Aug. 6, 1905. When a small child the family moved to Tiffin, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood and married Dr. Albert M. Blackman, Oct. 12, 1848. They made their first home in Fostoria, Ohio, where they resided until after the close of the civil war, when they came west and located at Beloit, Wis. After living there three years they moved again, coming to Ridgeway, six years and finally came to Cresco, May 9, 1874. After two years residence her husband was killed in an accident August 5, 1876. She was the mother of five children, the two eldest and the youngest one dying a number of years ago. The two living, Mrs. Flora Searles and Robert Blackman, resided with her and cheered and comforted and ministered to her during her last hours.
The funeral was held from the late residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. C. A. Marshall officiating. The interment was beside her husband in Oak Lawn cemetery.
