OBITUARY.
SOPHIA R. HESS – Was born Nov. 18, 1847, in the town of Bele, canton of Berne, Switzerland. In the year 1856 the family came to America and settled in Ohio. Here they remained until 1863 when they moved to Indiana. In 1865 they again moved west coming to Howard county, Iowa.
On January 8, 1866, she was married to Mr. Fred Daubersmith. Ten children were born to them, three of whom are deceased.
Sister Daubersmith united with the Methodist church about 27 years ago and remained a faithful member thereof until her death August 29, 1901, at Albert Lee, Minn.
Her mother died about 16 years ago and her father some 3 years ago.
Her last sickness was long and painful. For some years she had stomach trouble, which finally developed into cancer of the stomach. She was taken to Drs Mayo of Rochester, but nothing could be done for her. Very patiently and calmly she waited the end.
She had a full trust in her Saviour, frequently declaring that she wished the end would come and set her free from her sufferings. She has now gone and rests in peace, leaving behind her an example of patience, trust and hope as a legacy to her loved ones.
The funeral occurred Saturday, August 31, at Cresco, Iowa, fro, the M. E. church, Rev. Heald preaching. An escort of the Woman Relief Corps, of which she was a member, met the remains at the depot. Beautiful flowers decorated the casket and the church and covered the grave in Oak Lawn Cemetery. She was an attractive, intelligent woman who won the friendship and interest of many associates who thronged to pay a last tribute to her on earth.
She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, 7 children, three of whom, Edward, Clara and Frank are married. Four remain single Gertrude, Vinnetta, Walter and Margarete, also six brothers.
All of her children except Clara were present at the funeral. Her son Edward came from North Prairie, Wis., her brothers Fred, of Alexandria, S D., Edward, of Harmony Minn., Frank of Albert Lee, Minn., Albert and John of Elma.
