Loel Lienhard, age 67, of Cresco, IA, passed away at his home on October 25, 2018.
Loel Alan Lienhard was born August 27, 1951 in Cresco to Travis and Mildred ‘Dolly’ (Hovey) Lienhard. He graduated from Crestwood High School in May of 1969. He enjoyed playing sports during his high school career. Loel was married to Gertrude “Trudie” (Stevenson) Henderson in September of 1978. Loel was employed by the City of Cresco from 1975 to 2010 with most of his time being in the waste water treatment plant.
In his younger days, Loel enjoyed years of participating in several different sports from wrestling, softball, fishing, bowling and of course hunting. In his later years, he traded in the uniforms for a spectator’s seat. He enjoyed watching his children play numerous sports throughout their childhood and high school careers. Even his great-nieces and nephews’ sports careers kept his passion for sports alive.
Loel loved hunting and fishing. Most of this time was enjoyed with family and numerous friends. He devoted twenty years to teaching hunters safety classes at the Wildlife Club. He was a simple man who had the capability of befriending anyone who gave him ten minutes of their time. Loel was a stubborn man, but a loving Dad, Brother, Grandpa, Uncle, and friend to many.
Loel is survived by his children: Billi (Barry) Johnson of Lime Springs, IA, Amy (Jesse) Mauer of Rochester, MN, Andrew (Ashten Frana) of Cresco, IA, Jodi Henderson of Minneapolis, MN, Jack (Lisa) Henderson of Kasson, MN; five grandchildren: Kaylee and Thomas Johnson, Carly Henderson, Hudson and Alexis Mauer; two brothers: Lindsey (Linda) of Cresco, IA, and Louis (Lisa) of Cresco, IA, along with many nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Loel’s family would like to express their appreciation to all who helped care for their Dad the last few months, especially Howard County Hospice.
