SIDDALL-In Vernon Springs township, Howard county, Iowa, on Monday, March 15th, 1875, James Siddall, aged 62 years.

Deacon James Siddall, after a brief illness of one week, died at his residence near Cresco, at 7 o'clock last Monday morning. He was a native of Canada, and emigrated with his family to the state of Illnois in 1839. In 1854 he came to this county and purchased as a claim the farm now owned by Mr. Lewis, two miles east of New Oregon. That place he sold after a few months and purchased the one where he has so long lived and where he died. He had been for many years a most valued and beloved member and deacon of the Baptist church. The old settlers of this county, as well as many others who have more recently come to this region, can bear testimony to Deacon Siddall's blameless life, to his integrity and uprightness in all his intercourse and dealings with his fellow men; a most kind and obliging neighbor. In his death his family has lost a kind, loving husband and father, the community a valuable citizen and the church one of its main pillars. The members of the Baptist church feel a sense of bereavement in the death of their beloved Deason, second only to that of the family connections.

Deacon Siddall was buried on Tuesday; but in consequence of the severity of the storm the sermon and other religious services were postponed until Sabbath the 28th inst., at 11 a.m. at the Vernon Springs school house, As the deceased was one of the early settlers of this region, it is hoped a goodly number of that class will be present on that occasion.

The services will be conducted by Rev. C. E. Brown, of Lime Springs.

James Siddall one of the early settlers of Howard county died on Sunday morning, ripe in years and honored with the confidence and esteem of those who knew him.
