In December 1845, he was united in marriage with Maria Rawle. Here they made their home for over thirty years, when they moved to Cresco. Mr. Kellow was one of the charter members of the M. E. church which was organized at Vernon Springs in 1857 by Rev. Wm. Lease, Rev. Geo. W. Fall having preached there the year preceding.
Mrs. Kellow died three years ago this month. Seven children were born to them of whom five are now living: Mrs. John Blackburn, of Cresco, Mrs. E. A. Young, of St. Paul, Minn., Joseph, of Bristol, S. D., Wm. Jr., of Cresco, and Samuel R., of St. Paul, Minn.
After a painful illness of three weeks’ duration, he died on June 3, 1904, at 2 o’clock a. m. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. John Gammons, at the M. E. church, Sabbath afternoon. Mr. Gammons spoke from the text recorded in the 90th Psalm 10th verse:
“The days of our years are three score years and ten, and if by reason for our strength they be four score years yet is their strength labour and sorrow, for it is soon cut off and we fly away.”
Mr. Gammons spoke of his long and eminently useful career, of his influence for good in the community and his service to the church. He dwelt upon the upright character of the deceased as the monument which would endure throughout the eternal ages. A good man has gone.
