L. G. St. John was born in Le Roy, Gennissee Co., N. Y., April 2, 1821, moved with his parents to Clymer, Chautauqua county N. Y., in 1831, from there to Bristol, Wis., In 1842; was married to Annie B. Reed, April 6,1848; moved to Bristol, Fillmore Co., Minnesota, in 1853 and took up preemption on the banks of the Iowa river below Granger. Their union was blessed with four children, three boys and one girl, the two oldest passing away in infancy. His only daughter, now Mrs. R. L. Broadwater was the first white child born in Fillmore county in 1850. His wife passed over to the other side of Jordan leaving her husband, daughter and one son, W. B. St. John of Rayne, La., to mourn her loss. For over a year he has been an invalid and completely in the care of his daughter who has been his constant companion and comforter until death which occurred at 2 p. m., February 6, 1904. He lived to the ripe old age of 82 years, 10 months and 4 days—Preston Republican.
