“It is currently reported that William Winters, Sylvanus Pepin, Samuel Oldham and Lewis L. Light, all of Co. ‘I’, 38th Iowa Regt, are dead. They were all from this county.”

Born: Jan. 4, 1825 Died: Aug. 9, 1863
Co I. 38th Iowa
Nativity: Canada.Enlisted Aug. 21, 1862. Mustered Oct. 1, 1862. Died of intermittent fever and diarrhea on Aug. 9, 1863, on hospital steamer "City of Memphis." Buried in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks St. Louis, Mo. Section 5, grave 101.
