Gilbert Rosenbaum, age 89 of New Hampton, Iowa passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, Iowa with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating the mass. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia, IA with military rites provided by New Hampton American Legion Post #38.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 7:00 PM Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Saturday. Online condolences for Gilbert’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com . Gilbert Joseph Rosenbaum was born on May 10, 1929 to Louis and Matilda (Huber) Rosenbaum in Cresco, Iowa. Gil attended school at Festina School until the eighth grade. He went on to complete his schooling while he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950-1953. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Gil returned home and was united in marriage to Carmelita Brincks on October 1, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waucoma. The couple made their home in Charles City where Gil was employed at Oliver. Gil and Carmelita moved their family from Charles City to Chickasaw (west of Ionia) in 1965. After 36 years at Oliver, Gil retired and became co-owner of Chickasaw Meat Processing in Ionia, IA until 1999. It was then that Gil and Carmelita moved to New Hampton to their present home and enjoyed full retirement where he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Gil also enjoyed his time fishing, bow hunting, trapping – especially gophers, collecting cans and riding his Harley. Gil also enjoyed raising calves. He was a member of Holy Family Parish in New Hampton and a lifetime member of the Charles City VFW.

Those left to cherish Gil’s memory are his wife, Carmelita of New Hampton; his four sons, Ronnie (Dolores) Rosenbaum of Clear Lake, IA, Randy Rosenbaum of Sierra Vista, AZ, Rick Rosenbaum of Ionia, IA, and Russ (Kim) Rosenbaum of Nora Springs, IA; his daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Lensing of Osage, IA; grandchildren, Joe, James, Julie, Carla, Matt, Eric, Amy and Renae; great-grandchildren, Eli, Lena, Koen, Caleb, Judah, Jackson, Joey, Noah, Liberty, Alex, Corbin, Jaedyn, Peyton and one expected in November; his one sister, Dorothy Smith of Cresco, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Evelyn, Carmella, Rita, Mary and Ruthie and his brothers, Fred and George.
