Obituary-
Died at her home in Cresco, July 1, 1900, Mrs. Sarah Owens wife of Hugh Owens aged 57 years.
The maiden name of Mrs. Owens was Sarah Cull, and she was born in Leitrim, Province of Connaught, Ireland. She came to the United States when 15 years of age, residing at New Haven, Conn., until 1862, when she came West, and on the 5th of April 1863, at Festina, Iowa, was united in marriage with Mr. Hugh Owens. With the extension of the railroad to Cresco in 1807, Mr. and Mrs. Owens came to this place and opened a public house on the south side of Market Street which they kept for a few years. Leaving the hotel they bought a farm about a mile north of the city, where they resided until the failing health of Mrs. Owens induced them to leave the farm and move into the city where she passed away as stated. She leaves a family consisting of three sons, two daughters and her husband.
Mrs. Owens was a high type of the Christian mother whose entire life has been unselfishly devoted to her family and to her home, and in this sorrowful bereavement the public sympathy goes out to the family unreservedly.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows she was born in 1837.
