Obituary.
MRS. JAMES H. BROWN.
Friday morning the people of Cresco were startled by the announcement that Mrs. Jas. H. Milinda{sic} Huckins was born on March 31, 1821, in Clark county, Ohio, and died Friday morning, April 20, 1900, aged 79 years and 19 days. At the age of 18 and at the former home near Middleport, Iroquois county, Illinois, on March 6, 1839, she was united in marriage to James Hurley Brown, by Justice Levi Thompson. Leaving Illinois, they settled in Allamakee county, thence moving to Winneshiek county in 1850, and in 1800 moved to Cresco where she has since continuously resided, her husband dying on April 20, 1898, just two yours before the death of the wife.
To them eleven children were born, six of whom are still living, Mrs. E. I Barker, John J., George H. Chas. B., Ale. H., all of Cresco, and Mrs. Josephine Keithley, of Bentonville, Ark.
About a year ago, Mrs. Brown was so ill that her recovery was dispaired{sic} of but she recovered and was enjoying good health and during the night of of{sic} her death was up at 1 and 2 o’clock, caring for her little great-grand-child. The children living were at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Keithley and A. H Brown who was called to Bentonville some days ago on account of the serious illness of Mr. Keithley, whose death is momentarily expected. The interment was in New Oregon cemetery, on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Silke officiating, and a large concourse of the relatives and friends paying their last tributes of love and respect to the deceased.
