Obituary.
In the death of Mr. Zacharias Iverson, Jan. 30, 1900, this community lost a respected, honest and unassuming citizen. He needs no other eulogy to speak for him, and point to his worth, than the life he lived here in Lime Springs. His everyday life expressed his qualities of heart, and endears his memory to all who knew him. Such a life is commendable, and such a character and disposition is lovable. His familiar form and presence will be missed at his home and upon our streets. But that is not all that we as a people who have known him will miss. If we have been observing and if we are disposed to profit by the lessons of observation, then we shall miss his example. Seldom do we meet with a character and disposition so unique. Few would look to him for council and advice, biassed{sic} as advice and council proves to be, and is often the creature of circumstances and of policy. He could not advise or council, he was too reserved and too honest to assume such a part. But with the aid of the Divine Master, who said, “His grace was sufficient,” he could do right, and live right. And while he condemned the evil and the wrongdoing in others, the criticised{sic} could not point to a “beam in his own eye.” He possessed a rich gift, the gift of doing good by example, and Christian conduct, and this clearly revealed the man, and his worth, who honored God in his dally life.
Dead, did we say, the silent and reserved man has only entered the grave. God lives, and His word is true, and His truth is everlasting.
“Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming, in which all that are in the grave shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil unto the ressurection{sic} of damnation.”—John 5, 28-29.
