News was received Wednesday morning that Wm. Owen of Albion had died the night previous. He was one of the early settlers of the county, owning and living on section 13 in that township from the time we came to the county in 1857, to the time of his death. For more than two years he had been confined to the house from rheumatic troubles, the last we saw him in mid summer, he was shrunken in flesh so that he had more the appearance of skeleton than of a person with life in his body. At New Oregon, when he came to the county he was fireman and engineer in the steam mill of O. M. Munson, with John Young and Ed. Ryan in charge of the saw and lumber department. He was a kind and obliging neighbor, a true and devoted friend, and though not without faults, he was as good as men average. He was an Englishman by birth, coming to this country when a young man, passing away at about the age of 73 years. A widow and one son living on the old homestead survives him, also a daughter, Mrs. S. Hurley in Dakota, and Mrs. C. Mason in Nebraska.
