Obituary.
Frances H., daughter of James and Nancy H. Dunn, was born at Cleveland, Ohio, March 6, 1840. She came with her parents from Ohio to Illinois while quite young, and afterwards removed to Howard Co., Iowa, in 1856. On the 10th day of September, 1857, she was united in marriage with Wm. Rumsey. In 1861 they removed to Walworth Co., Wis., remaining there until 1869, when they returned to Iowa settling on the home farm a short distance east of Cresco.
When the Congregational church was moved from New Oregon, Mrs. Rumsey was one of the first to unite with the church at Cresco, and she remained a member of that church the rest of her life.
A few years ago her husband Major Rumsey was taken from her by death and since that time she has resided with her children in the old place.
Her children are Mrs. Lydia N. Brown, Wm. Rumsey, Mrs. Katherine T. Marshall and Mrs. Roberta E. Barker. All reside in this vicinity except Mrs. Marshall, whose home is in St. Louis, Mo.
Beside her children, Mrs. Rumsey leaves a father and mother, four sisters and five brothers to mourn her loss. Father and Mother Dunn, William and Henry Dunn, Mrs. H. D. Hulbert and Mrs. Josephine Doolittle, all residing here.
For some months Mrs. Rumsey has been suffering with her dread disease. Hoping to be relieved, in November she went with her daughter, Mrs. Barker, to Chicago to undergo an operation. For some time she was seemingly helped, but for the past month she has been a great sufferer and on Sunday, Jan. 21st, at 5 o’clock in the afternoon she passed away.
The funeral services were at her late home just east of town, on Tuesday afternoon, and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. O. H. Holmes. The loved form was laid at rest by the side of her husband in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
