Funeral services for Wallace “Wally” Korsmo will be held at 12:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 3 at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. John Friederick officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers are: Mike Bigley, Tom Bigley, Tim Bigley, Brian McConnell, Bruce McConnell, and Brad McConnell. Honorary pallbearers are: Frank McConnell, Sam Lucas, and Joe Hernandez. Conway Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Wallace, 61, died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Wallace K. Korsmo was born December 30, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Maurice and Ruth (Phillips) Korsmo. He graduated from Washington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
On May 21, 1966 he married Patricia A. Bigley.
He owned his own welding shop called “Wally’s Welding”. He proudly sponsored the “Wally’s” softball team. Wally had a long battle, with cancer, becoming ill in June 1989. Before his illness he was employed by Notre Dame School as a caretaker.
He liked to go gambling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and bowling.
He is survived by his wife Pat of Cresco; one daughter: Amy Roberts of Lime Springs; two sons: Dennis of Washington and Jeff of Cresco; five grandchildren; one sister: Fran Kriz; and six brothers: Fred Korsmo, Jim Korsmo, Ron Korsmo, and Bob Phillips all of Cedar Rapids, and Maurice Korsmo, Jr. and Richard Korsmo of Texas.
Wallace was preceded in death by one grandson; his parents; and one brother: Daryl.
