Services held for Fred Hubka, 84
Funeral services for Fred Hubka were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26 at Notre Dame Parish-St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Pallbearers were: Dallas Bestor, Dean Hubka, Scott Pecinovsky, Garry Wiltgen, Jerry Mrachek, Randy Rice, and Kyle Hopkins. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Fred, 84, died Monday, July 22, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home of complications of pneumonia.
Fred Albert Hubka was born April 23, 1918 in Howard County, near Protivin, the son of Joseph and Anna (Tupy) Hubka. He attended the rural school and returned home to work on the farm.
On January 30, 1952 he married Doris Rice at the St. Joseph’s Rectory by, the Rev. Roman A. Schares. They made their home on the farm near Cresco until they retired and moved into Cresco.
He was a former member of the Farm Bureau, and the Wildlife Club. He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved the simple things such as a game of cards, watching Tiger Woods or eating fresh strawberries or sweet corn. He loved retelling the story of seeing two World Series; both George Brett and his Kansas City Royals and Kirby Puckett and his Minesota{sic} Twins.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Cresco; two daughters: Joyce Becker of rural Cresco and Ruth Hopkins of Prairie Village, KS; one son: David of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren; and two brothers: Joseph of rural Cresco and Edward of Protivin.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Helen Prochaska; and two brothers: Leonard and Brother Anthony (Clarence).
