THURBER—In Marshalltown, Iowa, November 10, 1899, Mrs. Adelina R. Thurber, in the 80th year of her age.
Mrs. Thurber was among the very first settlers of this county locating with her husband, C. S. Thurber, on a farm overlooking the Iowa river and contiguous to the old village of Foreston, the present home of Hon. W. W. Williams, and the adjacent mill property. Mrs. Thurber was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lucy Mason and with her husband S. G. Mason. The remains were brought to Cresco arriving Saturday night the funeral being from the Congregational church, Sunday forenoon. Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Mason accompanied the remains which were taken to the home of C. I. White and and{sic} C. F. Webster. Mrs. Thurber was an estimable woman, intelligent, dignified, courteous and neighborly. Locating in Haward{sic} county in 1854, she experienced the privations and trials of pioneer life, her daughter, Mrs. Mason, being the first child born in the county. Of a numerous family of children there are but three living; Mrs. Lucy Mason, of Marshalltown, Ia., John Thurber, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Abner Thurber, of San Jose, California.
