OBITUARY.
Mr. Robert Fox was born at Coltishhall, Norfork Co., England, April 11, 1824. When twenty years of age be came to America, locating in Madison Co., New York. At this place he was married to Elizabeth L. Alexander, Feb. 20, 1850.
In 1864 he decided to come farther west and lived in Dodge Co., Wisconsin, for about a year, then coming to Iowa. He has been a resident of Howard county ever since.
While yet a young man living in New York he decided to lead a Christian life and never renounced the decision made at that time, but had always been a most faithful and devoted Christian. He was baptized at Peterboro, New York, by Elder S. S. Hayward. After coming to Iowa; there was for a time no church of his choice near where he was living so he temporarily united with the Congregational church near Florenceville. In 1872 he united with the Vernon Springs Baptist Church, which was afterward moved to Cresco and with this church he has retained his membership ever since. About six years ago Mr. Fox had an attack of typhoid fever which came near resulting in his death. Since that time he never recovered his former health and about the first of July he began to fail more rapidly, but was able to walk down town until three weeks ago when he found his strength was entirely leaving him. Gradually he grew weaker until about 12:30 Monday afternoon when he breathed his last, leaving his wife to mourn his loss whom he lived a few months less than 50 years, and three sons and two daughters; one son having passed to the other world about seven years ago.
The funeral service was held at the Baptist church Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. W. K. Lane officiating assisted by Rev. F. P. Shaffer.
