Darrell Dean “Darry” Ruggeberg, 74 of Lime Springs, IA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after his year long battle with cancer.

Darrell was born February 20, 1943, at home in Lost Nation, IA, to Darrell L. and Nadine (Schnede) Ruggeberg. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1960. After graduation he farmed in the Wheatland area. He married his high school sweetheart, Marian Kay Hass, on July 30, 1961, in Wheatland, IA, and started a family. They moved to Lime Springs, IA in 1969, where they currently reside. Darrell and Marian went on a few trips. One was to Germany where they were able to see Ruggeberg Village and meet some very distant relatives. They also traveled to New York and Arizona.

Darrell had a huge passion for farming, his Allis-Chalmer tractors, antique tractor pulls, square dancing, playing cards, and watching basketball games. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the United Lutheran Church of Chester, IA. He was also very active at organizing the antique tractor pulls for Old Settlers Day in Chester, IA for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marian of Lime Springs, IA, his children, Darry Lee (Patty) of Chester, IA, Dana (Susan) of Lime Springs, IA, Daryn (Cathy) of Rochester, MN, Kim (John) McKenzie of LeRoy, MN. Dean Friedrich of Gilbert, AZ, and Todd Larson of Riceville, IA. He has 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, which he loved so dearly. He is also survived by one sister, Shirley (Larry) Coons of Anamosa, IA.

He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas, both of his parents, one brother, and 3 sisters.

Darrell’s parting words to his family, “I know my family is sad that they’re losing me, but they forget that I’m losing all of them.”

Visitation will be held at the LeRoy Lutheran Church from 4-7 pm on Friday, February 2nd. Funeral services will be also at the LeRoy Lutheran Church at 10:30 am, Saturday February 3rd with a luncheon to follow. The burial will be after the luncheon at the Chester Hill Cemetery. Pastor Dan Christenson will be officiating.
