OBITUARY.
John Sever was born in Baden, Germany, Oct. 23. 1826, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Rush, Wednesday, March 22, 1899, aged 73 years 7 months and 1 day.
He emigrated to the United States in April, 1849, and on April 4, 1857, at Albany, N. Y., he was united in marriage with Margaret Frank who is left to mourn his loss. Twelve children were born to them, five of them crossing the river before him. Three daughters, Mrs. Jacob Rush, Mrs. Royal Wentworth and Miss Mary, and four sons, George, John, Sylvester and Joseph, were with him at the time of his death. He enlisted in the war of the rebellion at Elmira, N. Y, on the 3rd of February 1865.
He has been a great sufferer from rheumatism and heart trouble for years and has borne them with patience till the All Wise Father took him above where we believe all pains cease.
He was a kind husband, and father and a good citizen.
The funeral occured{sic} Friday forenoon from Grace Episcopal church, Rev. Gorrell officiating. The G. A. R. post, of which he was a member, attended in a body and and{sic} at the close church services conducted their ritualistic services for their dead comrade, after which the remains were interred In the New Oregon cemetery.
