Chester.
Mrs. Fred Nichols received a telegram Friday, Jan. 19, announcing the sad news of her father’s death in Quincy, Mich., where he with his family had gone to spend a year with relatives.
Mr. Schuyler Speer was born in Tyre, N. Y. Sept. 13, 1828; he was married July 2, 1853, to Miss Elizabeth Roberts of Rutland, Wis.; moved from there to Mower county, Minn., in 1875 where they resided until 1887, when they moved moved{sic} to their farm one mile north of Chester, Iowa, He died Jan. 20th 1899. The funeral was held in the Baptist church last Saturday afternoon. Rev. Burgess of Lime Springs officiating; his body was laid to rest in the Le Roy cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Speer united with the Chester M. E. church two years ago. We would extend sympathy to all bereaved. The family are now staying with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nichols.Transcriber’s Note: The above-mentioned date of the telegram doesn’t agree with the 1899 calendar or the date of death.
