Services were held for Katherine Wheeler, 72, ot Lime Springs on Tuesday, August 7, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa, with the burial in the New Oregon Cemetery, also at Cresco. Pastor Tim Sir will officiate.
Katherine died at the Regional Health Services of Howard Co. on Saturday, August 3, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Kate was born December 11, 1928 to Grover Cleveland Columbus and Altha Ellen Roberts Simmons in rural Ionia, Iowa. She was one of five children. Her brother, Kermit of California, survives her.
Kate is survived by her husband Paul and seven children: Donald (Ernie) Zimmer, and his partner Judy of Janesville, IA, Deborah Hughes of Frankville, IA, Renee Russett and her husband Jim of Franklinville, IA, Kim Hageman and her husband, Randy of Cresco, Lesia Stuelke and her husband John of Center Point, IA, David Zimmer of Mabel, MN and Michael Wheeler and his wife Teresa of Ashburn, VA. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren: McCane, Damon and Alana Zimmer, Melissa Jonas, Teddy, Kristina and Stephanie Hughes, Daniel and Mackenzie Russett, Rebecca and Miranda Hageman, Megan, Brittany, Sean, Ian and Jonathan Stuelke, Tess, Maddy, and Grace Wheeler, and a great granddaughter Chloe Hughes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth, two infant sisters, two granddaughters: Tammi and Terri Zimmer and a grandson, Jacob Stuelke.
