Transcribed by Joy MooreLAWLER -- Eleonora (Zbornik) Blazek, 93, Lawler, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8 at Our Lady Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass. Music for the service will be provided by Rutfi McKone as organist, Darryl Kuehner and Colleen Lowe as vocalists.
Interment will be in the church cemetery with Jeff Lowe, Brian Blazek, Stephen Zbornik, Tom Blazek, Don Blazek Jr. and Gene Blazek as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Hugeback Funeral Home, Lawler where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7:30 p.m. scripture service and an 8 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute.
Eleonora was born Feb. 20, 1908 in Cresco, the daughter of Joseph F. and Eleonora (Ptacek) Zbornik. She graduated from Assumption High School in 1926. After graduation, she attended St. Mary's College, Milwaukee for four years. On May 24, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Cresco she married Edward Leonard Blazek. The couple farmed three miles north of Lawler. Eleonara{sic} taught in various locations before and after her marriage. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and was an active 4-H Leader with the Lawler Lively Lassies for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, the Iowa Hawkeyes, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Bob Blazek, Winter Park, CO, Dick Blazek, Iowa City and Bill Blazek (Alice), Richland; one daughter, Jane Blazek, Madison, Wl; three grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; one sister, Ada Zbornik, Highland, CA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Blazek, New Hampton and Anne Zbornik, Highland, CA and one brother-in-law, Joop Aafjes, New Orleans.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward, in 1996; a stepmother, Nettie Zbornik and four brothers, Joseph V. Zbornik, Bernard Schneider, Ray Zbornik and Arnold Zbornik.
