LIBBEY.—In Orleans twp., Winneshiek county, Iowa, January 23, 1898, Susen Jane Libbey, wife of N. B. Libbey, aged 59 years, 8 months and 8 days.
Deceased was a native of Sanford, York county, Maine, where she was born May 5, 1838. In 1851, with her widowed mother she moved to New Hampshire, coming to Iowa in 1857, remaining two years, when she returned east, marrying with Nathaniel B. Libbey, May 6, 1860. In the spring of 1862 they came to Iowa, built the home where they since lived. In the fall of 186 while on a visit to their old home in Maine, they united with the old school Baptist church at North Berwick. The cause of her death was a cancer which commenced its growth about thirty six years ago, its progress being very rapid during the past two years. She was an affectionate daughter, a loving sister, a faithful wife, a true friend, and good neighbor. Her patience and cheerfulness were a marvel to her friends who from day to day witnessed her bodily pain and suffering as her life was slowly but surely ebbing away.

Transcriber’s Note: Cemetery records indicate she is buried in Oak Lawn and the spelling of her first name was Susan.
