He graduated from Cresco’s Notre Dame High School in 1958 and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, serving from 1958-1961.
After his military service, Steve returned to Cresco and worked for several years as a butter maker at the Cresco Creamery. He then moved to Des Moines to work for Diamond Laboratories, eventually rising to the rank of supervisor.
Steve was an avid outdoorsman, beginning with his Boy Scout years as a youth and continuing throughout his life as a hunter and fisherman. He was also well-known as a skillful gardener, who shared the fruits of his labor with his many friends and neighbors. His good natured teasing will be remembered by all, including the children of several of his high school classmates who knew him as “Uncle” Steve.
Steve’s wit, wisdom, and sense of humor endeared him to everyone. He was generous and helpful. You liked him immediately the first time you met him, and once he became your friend he remained your friend for life.
