Died.
TAFT—Margaret Ellen Birtwhistle was born at Ottawa, Ill., May 8, 1859; was married to Edgar J. Taft July 24, 1878; died Oct. 2, 1897.
Lulu May Taft, born Oct. 4, 1883; died Sept. 21, 1897.
Alice Ruth Taft, born April 22, 1888; died Sept. 25, 1897.
Clinton Harrison Taft, born May 13, 1891; died Oct, 1, 1897.
In a little over a week four members of this stricken family have died of malignant diphtheria. The oldest son and the second daughter alone are left to the desolate father. The mother died at one o’clock Saturday morning, the little boy two hours before. She was conscious to the last and bade her family a calm farewell, making such thoughtful plans for their future as was possible. She asked that her baby boy be buried in the same grave with herself, which request was granted Saturday morning at ten o'clock at New Oregon cemetery, where the graves of the two little daughters had been made so recently.
Perhaps no more pathetic occurrence has ever transpired in this city than the affliction that has befallen this family. Every heart has been touched with sympathy and hundreds have anxiously wished to render them assistance who were denied the opportuity{sic} by the virulence of the contagion, the strictest quarantine having been maintained upon the premises.—Times.
